Hoping for downward pressure....

I know that I am a bit player in all of this but I am hoping that we get a huge draw back in the prices of PM for the next four months. I think that it is happening as investors and 401Ks are setting at the sidelines waiting for the market to rebound. I think that this will happen for the short term even if Geitner and Obama are partying it up drinking cocktails at the whitehouse on our tax dime.

I really am interested in buying some specific key coins. I am interested if you folks who have a great deal of information can help an inexperienced bloke get some good information on some coins that I am thinking about.

Japanese Oban and Koban- These are generally 1oz coins that are very interesting and would go well with my Japanese sword collection. I don't think that there are many dealers of these or that there really are many of these in circulation. I know that some 1 oz bullion pieces are made to look like them and that might be fine.

SA Gold 8 Reale coins. These are also fascinating and there is a premium placed upon them. I would like silver pillar dollars as well. I know somebody out there is into pirate coinage and who wouldn't want their own treasure trove.

Pre-1933 Gold US coins. This downward movement will be about the last time that regular joes can afford them without saving for months. 1 type set for each US gold coin would be good.

Alaskan coins. There are a number of Alaskan territorial coins that are very interesting. I am thinking of the dwt and Alaska Territorial coins ToWaah coins.

I think that this is a start. I am wondering what you folks think. I do believe that the PM market and coin market will explode in 2-3 years so now is the time to buy, buy, buy but that is also the time that you can get nailed so caution, caution and education.

Which is what you guys provide.

Sincerely,

Thomas

Not knowing the numi market, all I can say is be careful. I don't know if the behavior of numis in past economic downturns, would be applicable this time around.

We might get some seasonal weakness in the coming months - can't help you on those Japanese coins other than to suggest Googling them (they sound cool, post some pics of them if/when you get some?), but I've found the seasonal gold and silver charts at 321gold.com to be useful general indicators of the best times of the year to buy metal.

Good luck and welcome!

I am also looking at some pre 1933 coins. The only problem is that even if we get a draw back those coins rarely move down very much.

I'm in it for the long haul, so I'd like to see a good drop for awhile too... I love chances to load up as I'm a long way off from having enough rounds to fill up my Pirates Chest...

I don't know how much I'd pay for one, but I think those are pretty cool too...

Here is a link to a page with some Japanesse coinage... http://www.coinvault.com/japan.htm

Also, I have seen a few adds for places that sell these in Numismatic Weekly and Coin World (weekly also)... You can check out coin world at the library vs. buying them...

Numismatics = total gambling during prolonged economic crisis

And I, for one - no offense - have no interest in seeing a drop in spot prices.

No offense to me, we all have different goals....

I just like more chances to ""Back The Truck Up" as from what I've seen in other peoples posts on what they've just picked up, I have a lot smaller of a truck...

Therefor need more chances to back it up to increase my overall holdings... :coolbeer:
